It seems to me that with all the access to tutorials and equipment and 2D Instructional Animation, etc - that theoretically a person wouldn't need to go to an art school/animation school to become an animator. Is there any truth to this?
I understand that of course, nothing could compensate instruction from industry professionals, etc - but if someone (me) is contemplating taking animation courses at a run-of-the-mill community college, not from particularly stellar animators or artists - couldn't I almost be just as well off saving my money, using it to learn on my own and create a reel myself ??
Is it possible to "self-teach" to a level that studios may pick you up, regardless of what schooling you may have?
