Carlo Vinci had been working as a commercial artist in New York City in 1933,when he was hired as an animator by the Van Beuren Studios. He trained a promising young Joe Barbera at the studio, and stayed until Van Beuren closed its doors.
Vinci next earned a position at the Terrytoons studios. After a decade, Vinci was fired on May 16, 1947 following a labor strike at Terrytoons, but was rehired six months later.
In 1955, Carlo moved to California to work at MGM for his former student, Joe Barbera. His first credited short at MGM was “Give and Tyke.” He stayed at the studio until its 1957 closure.
Barbera used his influence to secure a temporary job for Vinci at the Walt Disney studio until the Hanna-Barbera Studio opened later that year. Carlo was one of the first four animators hired at H-B, and remained with them until his passing 34 years later.
